And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. As we grow in the knowledge of the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, we enjoy more of His fullness and pleasure. And when we are filled with Him we no longer remain needy, Amen? Fullness of Christ satisfies the soul and knowledge of Him is the key to this understanding. As the Apostle Paul stated in Philippians 3:10: “I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.” And the Apostle pressed on to take hold of that very thing.
Many walk around with rocks in their metal cups shaking them to be filled. But no matter how many “rocks” we may put in – be it money, time, talents, people places, things or whatever, empty crevices still remain. When one’s cup is filled with the Living Water of the Lord Jesus they are no longer needy, rather ultimately satisfied. He not only fills our cups but He overflows them and His grace splashes on everyone around us. He knows exactly what we need and when we need it as we were created by Him and for Him. He is the Great Satisfier of our souls. We can trust Him and His abundant love for us.
Presently, we can only know “in part” of His great love – it is not until heaven that we will know fully even as we are fully known. Indeed, it is a love that surpasses frail human knowledge. It is a love that “is as strong as death” and as “unyielding as the grave.” Yet for now, our appetites should be whetted for even more to come. We want to know all we can know on this side of heaven, Amen? A love that “many waters cannot quench” nor “rivers cannot wash away”. Paul is greatly desirous that we grasp the immensity of the greatness of the thing to be comprehended – and that is the love of Jesus. Let us each pray that we may know more of the fullness of the love of Christ.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
