22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
24 The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. 25 In the same way, good deeds are obvious, and even those that are not cannot be hidden.
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. 14 I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.
11 With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. 12 We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11 filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.
“I love Him because He first loved me. His goodness and mercy and compassion to me are new every day. And my assurance is lodged in these aspects of His character. My trust is in His love for me as His own. My serenity has as its basis an implicit, unshakable reliance on His ability to do the right thing, the best thing in any given situation. This to me is the supreme portrait of my Shepherd. Continually there flows out to me His goodness and His mercy, which even though I do not deserve them, come unremittingly from their source of supply – His own great heart of love.” Phillip Keller
“Any thought or activity is to be eschewed or cut down if it does not bring the Christian towards their goal of heaven but serves rather to retard and impede them on their good course. For this simple reason, every action, thought or word - that is not one of piety and goodness - one must lift up their axe against. Never be afraid or lax to scrutinize your own heart.” BHY
“God’s goodness is the root of all goodness; and our goodness, if we have any, springs out of His goodness.” William Tyndale
“God hath in Himself all power to defend you, all wisdom to direct you, all mercy to pardon you, all grace to enrich you, all righteousness to clothe you, all goodness to supply you, and all happiness to crown you.” Thomas Brooks
“God is all that is good...and the goodness that everything has is His.” Julian of Norwich
“We are not sent into this world simply to oppose what’s wrong. We’re called to demonstrate what’s good, true, and right. We are to demonstrate our Father’s goodness and make Him known – even when doing so stretches us out of our comfort zones.” Chris Tiegreen
“Former Navy SEAL Michael Janke defines self-control as ‘the ability of the individual to adhere to actions, thoughts, and behaviors that result in personal improvement instead of instant gratification.’ He suggests that our ability to be self-managed casts a long shadow on our children and grandchildren. When we begin to use self-discipline to control our emotional highs and lows, our appearance, our work ethic, and our commitment to physical exercise, we are providing an example and leaving a legacy for those who follow us....When we detect an area in our lives needing mastery, the Lord’s grace is sufficient to bring it under self-control as we walk in the Spirit and commit ourselves to obedience. Peter tells us to make every effort to add to our faith goodness, knowledge, and self-control (2 Peter 1:5-6).” Robert J. Morgan
“Something happens when we come to God for His grace and mercy--something that is so radical and so amazing that it can only be described as death to our old selves. It is the overwhelming desire to please the One who has loved us with such amazing and unconditional love...I may not get better overnight; I may not be the fine, upstanding, and wonderful Christian I thought I was, but I now have a desire to please the One who loved me (and gave Himself for me). That desire is the soil in which goodness grows--not perfectly, by any means, but it does grow.” Steve Brown
“As His followers we know that if we are ever truly to reflect His goodness or His power, it will not be by human effort but only by grace.” Mile Mason
“The one who loves us wants us to tell others about Him, to intercede for others, and to live in such a way that people are drawn to His goodness and love.” Michael Youssef
“It is by grace that we are saved. It is by this same grace that we are sanctified. It is all Jesus. It is always all Jesus. Nothing to the cross I bring only to the cross I cling.” BHY
