Serene Calm: Focus Not On The Circumstance Rather On The God Of The Circumstance

The Lesson Learned

When our lines have fallen in pleasant places and our lives are drenched with the dew of heavenly delights and the candle of the Lord’s goodness is shining brightly upon our families we must practice the utmost of faith’s skills to steer the soul rightly through this serene calm. Isn’t it easy to get fat and sassy, lazy and lukewarm in prosperity? With limited desires and a plethora of blessings we seldom lean into our Creator, sailing along without giving Him much thought, not too dissimilar to the wandering ways of the Israelites behavior. When God blesses us with full cups and our longings are met, we have a tendency to move our focus off of the Giver of every good and perfect gift and on to our increasing enjoyments, Amen? In need we cry out for Him and in plenty we seem to rarely seek Him.

God calls us to keep our eyes fixed on Him – at all times – as He is the flowing Fountain of all blessings and enjoyments as well as perpetual peace. Outward enjoyments are sweet but God is infinitely sweeter. And He loves for us to seek Him rather than simply pleading and waiting upon what His Hand can provide. Much akin to Moses when God promised to let him go into the promised land but God would not go with them because He was fed up with the Israelite’s behavior. God would send an angel ahead of them to lead them, but He would not go. Moses responded that if God wasn’t going with them, he was not going. Moses was willing to give up on all the promises of the promised land so that he would remain with God. That meant all the wonderful things God had said about the promised land – all that the world had to offer so to speak – he would forgo if God wasn’t going with them. It is no wonder God chose Moses to lead the Israelites, because he could be trusted – both in plenty and in want. Just as a parent wants their child to love and obey them over simply what they do for them or give them, God desires that from His children as well. Remember, with God we have all things. He is to be our Sufficiency and Strength as we walk through this trek to our heavenly home, our Promised Land.  And Scripture tells us, “No good thing does He withhold from those whose walk in blameless”, not perfect but blameless. He is our all-sufficient portion fulfilling both our desires and necessities. Further, He is loving toward all He has made.
