“Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.” Proverbs 3:13-18 (NIV)
Scripture tells us blessed is the man who finds wisdom. Indeed, nothing on earth compares with her. She is both precious and pleasant and all her paths lead to perfect peace. It is no wonder the one who finds wisdom is referred to as blessed. The highly educated are often tempted to depart from the simplicity of Christ crucified and invent a so-called higher thought and intellectual doctrine – to their own harm. This leads us to be bewitched by all sorts of heresies yet they are like chaff to the wheat compared to the pure Word of God. It is only in Christ that the fullness of wisdom and knowledge are discovered. Jesus satisfies the most elevated intellect when He is willingly and believingly received. All who follow His precepts have good understanding.
Wisdom is also man’s true strength. Wisely handling life is the noblest occupation and the richest enjoyment. Its fruit is a life well lived. Scripture tells us to turn our ear toward wisdom and apply it to our hearts. Looking for it as we would hidden treasures. For the Lord gives us wisdom and understanding – guarding our course and protecting our way. When we wisely handle life, it will save us from the ways of the wicked and lead us on straight paths. Remember, God keeps back nothing that is profitable to us. He assures us with “If it were not so, I would have told you”. He always has our best interest at heart and that is the way of wisdom. To walk in His precepts and consider His ways, delighting in His statues and not neglecting His Word.
True wisdom will yield profitable and enduring benefits much greater than possessions or riches. This will result in a life that is marked by tranquility, confidence and great peace.
“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore, get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.” Proverbs 4:5-9 (NIV)
