The Lion Roars: Strive for Excellence

The Lion Loosed

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.  Colossians 3:23-25 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

We live our lives for an audience of One – Coram Deo – before the face of God.  This exalts our weary routines to quite another level, Amen?  If we do all for the glory of God, even unloading the dishwasher can become royal work instead of a royal pain!  Divine service is not simply something of a few places or hours rather all of life is to be sacred ground.  Brother Lawrence elevated peeling potatoes to a spiritual position through prayer and doing this menial task as unto the Lord.  God looks at the heart and the motivation behind the action  so much more than what the action is - from being the President to changing the diaper in the nursery.  He places a halo around the most humble occupations as well as the most elite.  He is not a respecter of persons or professions.  Do whatever you do as unto Him.  Is He not worthy of our best efforts?  Is our love for Him so weak that it does not stir us to zealous action?

God is concerned with our motives, attitude of hearts and conduct in whatever we do.  Many have the wrong notion that only ministers or missionaries do God’s work.  Nothing is further from the Truth.  God has prepared in advance the works He desires for all of us to walk in making every occupation a holy one.  The godly worker in any field is just as God glorifying – whatever that work may be.  Take care not to forsake this duty of doing all as unto the Lord whatever your position.  Let our first care be to bring God much glory in the works of our hands.  We are to think little of ourselves but not of our callings.

Heart Savor

The Lion Roars

For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father's glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what he has done.   Matthew 16:27 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
