Your word, O LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you. If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. Psalms 119:89-92 (NIV)
God does what He says He will do. His saying is His doing. He does not vacillate – He is not whimsical - He never changes like shifting shadows. Even in the best of men there often remains a difference in saying and in doing but not in God. He performs as He promises and He is just as willing in both. This should remove discouragement from the child of the King, Amen? All the promises of Scripture are “Yes in Christ”. He would cease to be God if He failed to perform any promise. Indeed, He stands engaged for the performance of His promises. He is unchangeable lacking no power or wisdom. All the plotting’s of Hell cannot shake God’s mighty Hand to spoil one promise He has made. If He is willing to promise, He is willing to perform.
Believers in Jesus have an unquestionable title to all things promised. We would do well to know the promises of God and pray them back to Him as that delights His Soul and moves His Hand. Meditating on them and enjoying them in our hearts will quite often be the prelude to their fulfillment – at the very least it calms the soul and strengthens our walks as they are God’s Words not mans. God always, always has our best interest at heart – even though things are unutterably hard. There is purpose and we can trust Him. His Word is as true as His existence – unchangeable and completely full of power and wisdom.
“Now I am about to go the way of all the earth. You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the LORD your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed.” Joshua 23:14 (NIV)
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 2 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)
