But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. Micah 7:7 (NIV)
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalms 27:13-14 (NIV)
Waiting. Ugh. No one likes it – at least that I know of. We want God to act, to respond quickly to our requests yet it often feels, quite frankly, like molasses dripping. But God is never early or late – His timing is impeccably perfect and we can rest secure in that. He is teaching us in the wait – something of great benefit and blessing - and we do not want to miss it by our whining and complaining. The waiting room is one of His most used classrooms, Amen? Let’s face it, we seek Him more, depend upon Him more and listen to His still small voice more when we are waiting for His mighty Hand to move on our behalf. Our time spent with Jesus reminds us that He is the great solution to all our “everything’s”. He is to be our sufficiency and strength and in giving us Himself He is giving us our all. We lack no good thing. He fills every wanting space within us so that all else received is simply superfluous for the child of the King.
God is neither stingy nor closed handed. He gives only what is supremely for our best interest though often unutterably hard. He is in the process of conforming His children to the image of His Son and He uses all the waits and works towards this glorious end – and we want that too – far more than what we are waiting for – believe me.
We must learn to thank Him and praise Him for what His Hand has already bestowed. Our scrawny necks have been saved from the pit of Hell and that should keep us praising until our last breath. Couple that with the power of the Holy Spirit indwelling every true believer in Christ Jesus equipping and strengthening us to walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel – we should be the most thankful of all people. No longer beggars but sons and daughters of the Lord of Lords and Kings of Kings. This should make all else we wait for like simply playing in the sandbox compared to frolicking on the beach. God is good all the time and He loves His children all the time and He has their best interest at heart all the time – even in the wait. We must surrender our “doubting Thomas” thoughts and trust and rest secure in Him.
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NIV)
