“To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”** Isaiah 40:25-26 (NIV)**
We often dwell in the shallow lands while God desires for His people to dwell on high – walking in the heights of His awe inspiring world, His love, His mercy and His kindness. We rush and rush and are busy, busy, busy while God is calling us through the psalmist in Psalms 46:10 ((NIV): “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” His desire is for us to set our hearts and minds on things above – where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.
Our God knows and sustains all things by His righteous right Hand. Nothing is too hard for Him. Nothing. Everything has purpose as well - even if our finite minds cannot comprehend it. Indeed, He knows everything about His creation - a leaf cannot fall apart from His knowledge and His all-seeing eye. He is the One Who makes known the end from the beginning, from ancient times what is yet to come and His purposes will stand. He Who controls the millions and millions of stars – calling them each by name – and by His great power not one of them is missing. His greatness is discovered in His sustaining power of the universe.
All too often, busyness, rushing, seeking productivity and efficiency rob us from our best and seek to become our god. It often gives us great satisfaction to get something accomplished or checked off our list, yet it can leave the soul starved for the highest and greatest good and that is to know God and the works of His Hands. We end up starving our souls with no stillness or silence, no marveling or meditating on God and the wonder of His works. Distractions and busyness steal our wonder away from the Almighty. Paul writes to us in Philippians 4:8 (NIV): “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things.”
We are blessed when we open our eyes and ears to all that is around us – all that His Hands have made – the beauty in the flower, the warmth of the sun, the laughter of a child, the majesty of a bird in flight – God’s great creation is constantly pointing to our Creator God with all its unspeakable variety – all the things that share in God’s original “good”. We would do well to put away all the noises and dings of our distracting devices and listen for His still small voice, looking intently into the variety of His creation of all that He has given us to enjoy – and marvel at the beauty, wonder and the diversity of it all. Do let the countless joys of the unspeakable variety go unobserved or un-marveled. The innumerable wonders of God’s amazing world all bear His signature for HIs glory alone. And He saw that all He made was good.
