The Lesson Learned

What do we dwell on? It matters. God tells us to let our minds think on Him – not on earthly things. Let Him be our first and last thoughts of the day and all throughout it as well. He will not let anything rob our peace if our eyes are fixed on Him because in Him is perfect peace. It is easy to dwell on Him and run to His feet when times are difficult and not of our choosing, right? But in the coolness of the day, when all is well with our little worlds, do we continue to walk with Him? Do we remain in constant communion with Him? We would do well to remember that He is a “with us” God. He never leaves nor forsakes us yet we so often forget about Him – much to our own harm. I love what King David writes in Psalms 63:6-8: “On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.” 

Paul tells us in Colossians our hearts and minds are to be set on things above – not on earthly things. We are to be in constant dialog maintaining an internal walking prayer. This is doable but it is always a choice. He will allow us to fret and trust in our meager resources getting us nowhere fast or we can trust in His omnipotent loving hands. His desire is to lead, guide and direct His children just as He did King David and Paul and countless others in Scripture and throughout history. Does Christ stand high or low with us?  In those who esteem Him, He fills with his presence, power and pleasure. It is to experience a bit of heaven on earth. Let Him lead guide and direct you. He will be the friend to you that sticks closer than a brother.

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Colossians 3:1-4 (NIV)

  • We are never to be lacking in zeal but keep our spiritual fervor serving the Lord.
  • We are to be zealous for the Lord’s great Name – through His power for His glory.
  • Create in me a pure heart and a steadfast spirit Oh Lord.
