He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:7-8 (NIV)
Our God has promised to supply us with the strength and grace sufficient to meet all our needs for the day. And He will never prove unable to fulfill His promises. Not one. He never grows tired or weary and His understanding no one can fathom. And He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak, as the Prophet Isaiah clearly states. Our God is never want of power or love. The vast overflowing storehouses of His strength, grace and mercy can never be emptied or prove impotent. He has given every believer in Christ Jesus the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit equipping and teaching us to walk in a manner worthy of the Gospel. To walk as Jesus walked. Impossible in the flesh, made possible in His power. And this is where our victory lies. It is not in human strength that we conquer or do anything eternal for that matter rather it is by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit enables and equips us as well as points others to Him through our actions. Because the One Who gives the power gets the glory, right?
As believers in sweet Jesus we are to constantly and continually consider the power of God as being readily available to us - as an ever flowing fountain - leaning not on our own understanding and strength (which, BTW, we are so prone to do). We are to be impressing this upon our souls until all fears and doubts are silenced. God delights for His children to go forth in His power for His glory. It makes much of Him because it is so other worldly in its nature. Also, our obedience and comfort flows from the knowledge of His power being readily available for our assistance. If God sends you, He will carry you in His strength. He both calls and equips. When we are not persuaded of this we are erratic and unreliable in our obedience. Every slight and threat from man will disappoint and discourage us. When we fully trust in Him and the Holy Spirit’s help our hearts will leap for joy as King David, the man after God’s on heart, tells us. His almighty power is always engaged for our defense and help in all that we face in life. Depend upon Him. He will never disappoint you.
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. Psalms 28:7-8 (NIV)
O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God. Psalms 59:9-10 (NIV)
