Valuable: Our Worth Comes From His Love For Us

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)

The Lesson Learned

We are of great value in God’s sight. So much so, that the Father sent His Son to die to save our scrawny necks. No one apart from being clothed in Christ’s righteousness can stand in God’s presence. Every knee will bow before the King of kings and the Lord of lords – whether forced or not. Yet, Scripture tells us, the righteous will stand because He is faithful and able to cause us to stand.

We have all sinned and fall short of God’s glory. Every.single.one.of.us. That is why we all so desperately need a Savior. And His Name is Jesus. We bring nothing to the party but our sin and depravity. “Nothing to the cross I bring, only to the cross I cling,” the saying goes. He loved us so much that He willingly died for us – even when clothed in our filthy rags of sin and unrighteousness. As Scripture tells us in Romans 3:23 (NIV): “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” What love is this? Paul writes in Romans 5:6-8 (NIV): “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God is not indifferent to us either – He hears our prayers and sees our tears. Indeed, He looks upon the tears of the righteous as pearls and casts an eye of love upon us. He does not forget our suffering – as He is in the fire with us - or treat us as our sins deserve. And He reflects upon the least good that is done through the weakest saint – through His power and for His glory. Just as we watch our young children clumsily seeking to walk or run or do a specific task to please, God looks upon our doings for His glory and is well pleased. He is tender and loving toward all He has made yet He does not leave our sins unpunished, hence Christ had to die for us. Now when God looks down at a saint in Jesus, He sees the perfect life of Christ. As Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV): “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” Amazing.

We must never think that God does not care for us – we are greatly valued and dearly loved and He has His eye upon us for our good and for His glory one never surpassing the other.

The Lion Roars

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Matthew 10:29-31 (NIV)
