Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. Psalms 37:7-9 (NIV)
Do you sometimes feel like a buzzard circling aimlessly in the air? Round and round it goes making you dizzy just to keep watching it. Unlike the buzzard who is seeking its prey in an effort to pounce when it is spotted, we can often find no purpose in our waits. But God (two of my favorite words used in Scripture) always has purpose in our every wait. Not too dissimilar to the buzzard, He desires for us to be seeking His ways and His hand during the wait, resting in His omniscient ways. He Who makes known the end from the beginning has purpose in all things. Nothing takes Him by surprise. He desires for us to maintain peace and joy in the wait not anxiety and grumbling which we are ever so prone too!
In dilemmas between one duty or another it behooves us to be humble and as a child wait in simplicity of soul for His hand to move. He is faithful to direct our paths when we diligently seek His way. If your child came to you for direction would you not show him/her? How much more so our Father in Heaven. We are to express our unfailing confidence in His timing for unfaithful, untrusting waiting is simply an insult to our God. Simply wait and do the next right thing in front of you. Let us be as Habakkuk who rightly penned: “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.” Habakkuk 3:17-18).
Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil, but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found. Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace. But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off. The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him. Psalms 37:34-40 (NIV)
