I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Psalms 130:5-6 (NIV)
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalms 27:13-14 (NIV)
Have you ever noticed that our timing is rarely the Lord’s timing? After many years of walking with Him, I have discovered it over and over again! In our day and age (and I suppose in every day and age) we want what we want when we want it. Further, this phenomenon begins as early as birth! Ever been around a hungry or wet newborn? The older I get I have come to realize that God takes years to create a vessel worthy of use. Much akin to the vine that is sown and cultivated, fertilized and pruned bringing forth much fruit for the sower so too God plants and cultivates and prunes our vessels to bring forth much fruit both for His glory and for our good – never one surpassing the other. While lengthy, to be sure, all the while we are propelled on by the sweetness of His perpetual peace and presence. Calling to mind the perfection of His timing keeps us steadily moving forward as well.
We can wait cheerfully and hopefully if we are certain we do not wait in vain, Amen? While hope deferred surely makes the heart heavy, the longing fulfilled is as a tree of life. Life is so brief. We cannot afford to lose a day of it. We are to be about whatever He has given our hands to do as we wait on Him to act on our behalf. Faith will always be tested to be proven true. It is our duty not to grow weary in the trial, bearing it without yielding or grumbling or complaining – actions which caused the Israelites much grief and delay. It helps us to not grow weary if we recall how long, in His abundant mercy and grace, He sweetly and untiringly has waited for us. Wait for Him and you will be blessed.
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil. For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
Psalms 37:7-11 (NIV)
