The Lesson Learned

God loves us.  Indeed, He loved the world so much He demonstrated that love by sending His One and Only Son to die in our place.  There is no greater love than that.  He is the only wise and loving God who knows how to bring about what is the very best for us.  Even though sometimes, it may not feel like it is the very best.  We can have differing ideas of what is “good”, Amen?  Yet, we can be rest assured that everything that is allowed in the life of every heir of mercy is always for our best interest – Romans 8:28 assures us of this wonderful promise:  28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Make no mistake about it, whatever God allows in the life of His children He uses to make us more and more like Jesus.  But it is not pain free – rather far from it.  It is the medicine in right proportion which kills the disease and strengthens the body.  It is His goal to conform us into the image of His Son so that He may be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.  And that is what we want as well as it is good and pleasing and perfect.  To manifest in ever increasing measure His love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control brings much contentment to the bearer of such treasures and there are no prohibitions against such virtues.  And it is God Who does this as we relinquish our stubborn wills into His loving hands.  He predestines, calls, justifies and glorifies.  It is He Who does it all for His heirs of mercy.

The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.”  Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)

No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate.  But you will be called Hephzibah, and your land Beulah; for the LORD will take delight in you, and your land will be married.   Isaiah 62:4 (NIV)
