“‘See, it is I who created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its work. And it is I who have created the destroyer to work havoc; no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the LORD.” Isaiah 54:16-17 (NIV)
Certainly in the millennial kingdom this will be abundantly obvious yet it remains true for every believer in Jesus presently as well. Peace and safety are the heritage of all who trust in the Lord. The promise of Scripture is that all He allows in our lives will ultimately bring about what is good for those who love Him. Romans 8:28 is our guarantee on that. In a broken, fallen world filled with tribulations, this truth brings us much hope. God will be no man’s debtor. There will be certain recompense both on earth and in heaven. Sometimes that means we enjoy more of an awareness of Him – that He is walking with us (or even carrying us) through our valleys. All the most powerful means that have been employed to destroy God’s people have been rendered ineffective by the cross. They may kill the body but never kill the soul. Believers have our Lord’s Word on that.
Christ did not choose His disciples from the most eloquent orators or men of authority rather from fishermen and poor laborers yet look how the gospel spread through the whole world. What would seem ludicrous in man’s mind brought the gospel to all kingdoms. This is not too dissimilar to the sound of ram’s horns causing the wall of Jericho to fall. Or a teenager felling a great giant with a slingshot. God’s ways are not man’s ways and He leaves no wiggle room for us to take credit or glory either. Nations and kingdoms rise and fall on the basis of His Word and His Word alone. And they always have. As His sheep, we listen to His voice and we follow Him and His leading and nothing can snatch us from His loving Hand – praise Him. To be certain, our trials and tribulation will abound but not prevail – the adversary continuing to work havoc daily (not to mention our own selfish flesh). The One Who spoke the world into being has our back. We are here until it is in His perfect timing to take us home and not a second sooner or later.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NIV)
The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV)
Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. Lamentations 3:32 (NIV)
