How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Psalms 119:9-11 (NIV)
Solomon tells us in Proverbs 9:10 (NIV) – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Indeed the pathway to wisdom is through the Word of God. We are the ultimate losers if we do not take up our residence there. God’s Word is not simply to be idle words for us, they are to be our life.
There are many false teachers who “go about in sheep’s clothing but inwardly they are ferocious wolves” and we can recognize them by their fruit if we have the sieve of the Word to put their doctrine through. Wisdom is man’s true strength and under its guidance he accomplishes God’s best for his life. When we handle life wisely it brings forth both the richest enjoyment and a noble occupation in whatever God gives our hands to do.
Wisdom is also the compass used to avoid the “trackless waste” that accompanies so many on their treks through this life. Without it we are blown here and there by the waves and winds of all sorts of doctrines and teachings, ever subject to the cunnings and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. We must handle matters wisely if we desire to journey safely to our heavenly home. The true way to handle wisdom wisely is to trust in the Lord and His Word, with all our hearts and lean not on our own inept understanding. Acknowledging Him in all our ways and He will make our paths straight.
Remember as well, In Christ Jesus dwells all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge and all who follow His precepts have good understanding.
Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. Proverbs 3:13-18 (NIV)
