May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalms 19:14 (NIV)
God’s Word is of inestimable value. Indeed, Scripture states of Scripture that it is more precious than “thousands of pieces of silver and gold”(Psalms 119:72B (NIV)). Also, when we speak God’s Word we are speaking life. Scripture also tells us: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)). There is transformative power within the pages of Holy Writ.
Not only is God’s Word of inestimable value, it is extraordinarily powerful. It never returns void but accomplishes the purposes for which it was sent forth. How sad it is that most people do not hide it in their hearts so they can bring it forth to encourage, strengthen and nurture those suffering in their spheres. Not to mention when it is hidden in our hearts it keeps us from sinning (Psalms 119:11). We are to be setting an example for other saints in speech, life, love and purity. Watching our life and doctrine closely and considering carefully our words. This is done by meditating upon His Word. We are to never, never neglect it.
Word in, worth out. Meaning what we choose to dwell on, we will eventually speak and act. Thoughts go from head to heart to hand and mouth. Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth will speak. It is important, therefore, what we take in, Amen? It is also important who we choose to surround ourselves with as we often take on much of their words, thoughts and actions. Wouldn’t we rather be ones known for speaking life giving words of great value and profit rather than pillage the soul of the hearer with words that tear down rather than build up? Speak life!
When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight,
for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty. Jeremiah 15:16 (NIV)
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV)
