Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Colossians 3:22-24 (NIV)
God does not seem to deal in half-measures, Amen? He desires wholehearted devotion and a willing mind in all that we undertake – no “C” job with Him – He requires our best in all that we do and say. To be sure, He gave us His. As we work with the constant awareness of God’s character as well as His Presence it bestows dignity to our labor. Whatever that work may be. Nothing is too low or too small in His eyes – all are held important and we are held accountable to Him for them. Remember, everything we do should glorify Him. That means we give it our best – whatever our best is. It is God Who examines the heart and it is He that is the ultimate rewarder of all that we say and do and think.
Believers bring great value to their circumstances by bringing Jesus into their spheres of influence both at work and at play and we are never to take that lightly. How are we reflecting Him to others? He desires for us to leave “the aroma of Christ” in all our encounters. Knowing we are to manifest God’s character and presence heightens the dignity of whatever we do. This is to be done not out of compulsion or slavish fear rather out of genuine love for Jesus and for others. It comes from within – no outward pretense or manipulative desires. We all have good works that God has prepared in advance for us to walk in and to achieve for His glory through His power and always for our good. He has plans to prosper us and not harm us, plans to give us hope and a future and we do not want to miss out on all that He has in store. It is the reason we are here. Work diligently with wholehearted devotion and a willing mind. You will not be disappointed.
God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised. Hebrews 6:10-12 (NIV)
