Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it. Psalms 37:34 (NIV)
I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD. Psalms 27:13-14 (NIV)
Have you ever noticed that God’s timing and our timing are rarely the same? We want what we want when we want it, Amen? We cry out “How long, Oh Lord?” And nothing seems to change. Nothing. But God, Who is rich in mercy, is far more interested in our growth than our creature comforts. Further, He is always working in us and for us and through us in the wait. And He is infinitely patient in this process. “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him” (1 Corinthians 2:9) is His mantra. Yet, we chronically kick against His best, Amen?
Waiting is not simply about sitting around strumming our fingers and twiddling our thumbs. As we just read, a far greater work is going on. We merely need to be doing the next right thing until God moves us forward. We see only partially, He sees perfectly. God is in the process of growing us, conforming us into the image of His Son. Waiting is not meant to destroy us rather to grow us, building our patience and hope. Making us more like the Son Who was to be “the firstborn among many brothers”. Patience is the fair handmaid of faith – we can more gladly wait when we know we are not waiting in vain, Amen? Believers are to wait on the Lord in expectancy and trust knowing He has our best interest at heart and, as stated, He is working in and through us to be more and more like His Son. Every heir of mercy can know for certain that all things – even our waiting – are producing good in our Lord’s Hands. What we entrust to Him reaps sure rewards. His way is the richest pathway to abundant life – even the wait.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
