Enoch Goes to Heaven

Knowing God’s Word Helps Me Stand for Him
1. REVIEW
- Let’s review by seeing if you can remember which story goes with each memory verse!
- Lesson 1:
- Revelation 4:11
- “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”
- Which story did this verse go with? Yep! The Creation of the whole world!
- Lesson 2:
- Genesis 2:7
- “Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
- This one’s a little more obvious – what story does this memory verse go with?
- The creation of man!
- Lesson 3:
- Romans 3:23
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- This verse goes with _____. Yep! Adam and Eve choosing to go their own way instead of God’s way in the Garden.
- snake// fruit
- And finally, Lesson 4
- Romans 5:8
- “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
- This was the most recent lesson…. Do you remember what it was?
- The story of Cain and Abel; Able chose to go God’s way, but Cain chose to go his own way.
- Let’s discover what this week’s memory verse is about!

2. MEMORY VERSE
- Remind me: why do we memorize scripture? So we can know God and experience our union with Him!
- Let’s hop into this week’s memory verse!
- Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
- We talked about this a little bit last lesson, but what is faith, and where do we get it?
- Hebrews 11:1 tells us that “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen”
- Faith is basically our invisible, but real, relationship with God. Faith is trusting God and His Word, even when we don’t understand what He’s up to.
- We have to have faith to 1) believe in Jesus as our Savior and 2) live a love, trust, and obedience with God.
- Where does this faith come from? What does our verse say?
- It says that “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”.
- Hearing God’s Word strengthens our faith!
- When you think about it, your best relationships are probably with people you actually talk with and listen to!
- Your faith in God is the same way! You grow in relationship with God by hearing what He speaks! God speaks to us in all kinds of ways, and God loves to speak through His written Word! As we spend time in His Living Word, He speaks to our hearts and our lives by His Holy Spirit.
- Have you had moments where you feel like God has spoken to you through the Bible or by His Spirit? His Words can make us feel full of life, help us see how big God is, and normally give us the God strength instead of our own strength!
- Let's say our memory verse one more time before we explore God’s Word to see some faith in action!
- Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

3. THE HUMAN RACE GROWS
- When God created Adam and Eve, he placed them in the Garden and told them to multiply (have babies) and fill up the world!
- Because they sinned, their babies were born sinners.
- Sin always keeps us from connecting with God clearly.
- For example, Lucifer’s (or Satan’s) sinful pride got him taken out of heaven.
- Adam and Eve’s disobedience (eating the forbidden fruit) got them taken out of the Garden.
- Cain’s sin (refusing to follow God’s way and killing his brother), got him sent away from his home to become a wanderer of the earth.
- We see the human race growing, but it seems to be getting more and more sinful!

4. CAIN’S UNBELIEF
- When Cain 46 left his mother and father, he traveled east. He and his wife settled in a land called Nod and began to build a city 65.
- People kept having kids, and the city became full of people. People began playing instruments, building tents, making tools, and doing all kinds of city things!
- This would've been awesome if they loved God, but the whole city was built on unbelief God was left out of the city! These people didn't believe in God, and they didn't teach their children to believe in God. Instead, they believed in themselves and the work they could do on their own.
- They were choosing life on their own instead of life with God.
- Sadly, many cities are like that today! They have invented all kinds of cool things, opened all kinds of restaurants, and have interesting schools, except-they are not focused on being in relationship with God.
- Anything without God at the center of it is empty, and it will eventually crumble! That’s why Jesus tells us to build our lives on the rock of God and His Ways!

5. ENOCH DOESN'T DIE
- Do you remember when God told Adam that if he ate the forbidden fruit in the Garden, he would die? Well, it was true! Adam lived to be very old, but he eventually died
- Everyone else after Adam was born a sinner, so they died, too. Well, almost everyone else!
- Let’s look at something WILD in Genesis 5.
- A man 7th down the line from David, named Enoch, has one of the craziest stories ever!
- Let’s talk what we know about Enoch
- Genesis 5 tells us that Enoch lived a total of 365 years and that he walked faithfully with God. Hebrews tells us that he was a man who pleased God.
- Jude 14 &15 tells us that Enoch spent his life preaching– warning people to give God their empty, deceitful hearts and reconnect with the Living God!
- I guess that all seems pretty normal for a Bible story, right? Preaching about God’s heart, walking faithfully with God, and living in the delight of God!
- Well, the story doesnt end typically! The end of those same verses tell us that while Enoch was walking faithfully with God, people suddenly could not find him!! Its like he just… disappeared! Where do you think he went?

6. ENOCH IN HEAVEN
- Okay so Enoch just disappeared… where did he go?
- Genesis says that GOD TOOK HIM AWAY! ENOCH WAS TAKEN FROM LIFE SO THAT HE DIDN'T EXPERIENCE DEATH!
- Where do you think God took Enoch? To be with Him!
- Why do you think God took Enoch up to Him? The Bible verses we read said that Enoch was a man who walked with God, had faith, and pleased God. That means Enoch was friends with God– he must have walked so closely with God’s heart that God just snatched him up! I bet that made God so happy!
- It sounds like Enoch and God were pretty close friends. I dont know about you, but I really want to be a close friend of God’s.
- What are some ways that we could be good friends with God? What do you do with your good friends?
- We could spend time with God! Time with friends always makes our relationship better.
- We could spend time reading God’s love letter to us… you know, the BIBLE!
- We could talk to God– that helps me get to know people.
- We could spend time outside with God– He loves to reveal Himself through His creation!
- We could spend time with people who love God– people who love God often carry really great parts of God inside of them!
- While there’s no promise to say we will get snatched up to heaven like Enoch as we get closer to God, God does promise that we will 1) find Him and 2) be satisfied with what we find if we seek God with all of our hearts!
- Enoch was a wholehearted seeker of God, and I want to be the same way!

7. GOD SPEAKS TO HIS PEOPLE
- It’s so important to know that God loves to speak to His people! He isn't far away from us– He comes low, draws near to us, and loves speaking to us!
- Most of the time, God’s voice doesnt come through our ears. He comes through our hearts!
- In John 10:27, Jesus says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me”.
- You’re actually made to hear God’s voice! Yes, YOU! You are made to have a relationship with God where He leads you by His voice. All you have to do is receive Jesus — the Holy Spirit will lead you from there and teach you all truth!
- God is personal, He comes close, and He will speak directly to you!
- What are some ways that God speaks to us today?
- God’s voice loves to come to us through the Bible. The Bible is God’s message to us, and He uses it to speak to us. To know His voice, we must spend time in the Word!
- God also loves to speak through His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit often directs our thoughts and gives us ideas. Here are some examples of what this could look like!
- someone’s name is on our mind. Maybe God is encouraging us to pray for the person.
- you have a strong feeling about something. It might be that God is directing us in the way we should (or shouldn’t) go.
- a Bible verse comes to mind. God may be encouraging you to do what that Bible verse says, or He might be bringing you peace or courage through it.
- God also speaks to us through His People, His Creation, dreams, visions, and so many other ways! He is so creative, and He is constantly looking for ways to connect with us!

8. GOD SPEAKS TO HIS PEOPLE
- So we know that Enoch was an amazing friend of God’s, and we know that God still speaks to His people in all kinds of ways!
- Let's talk about a few other important things about friendship with God and His voice.
- One of the most important things about hearing God’s voice for us is 1) belief and 2)obedience
- Oftentimes, when God speaks to us, it won’t be delivered with a neon sign! We have to believe Him and believe we hear His voice.
- Another SUPER important part of hearing God is our obedience!! We can’t just know what God is saying to us– we have to do it! So much transformation happens when we act on God’s direction in our life.
- That being said, know that the voice of God we are made to hear will never go against what God has said in the Bible. Let me say that again :: What God tells you will NEVER go against what the Bible says!
- This is one of the reasons it’s so important to stay in God’s Word! When we read, memorize, and sing His Word, we will be able to test what we think God is saying to us by bringing it to the scriptures!
- Do you feel like God has asked something of you before by the Holy Spirit inside of you? Did you go search out His Word to see if it confirmed what He was saying? Talk about this with your friends and family— I bet they have some really interesting stories!

9. DECLARATIONS
It’s important to declare out loud what is true about God! It helps our heart come into line with what our minds understand! Say these things to God from your heart with me!
- Thank you, God, that you love coming as close as possible to Your people!
- God, help us to pass your Word along to people around us– older and younger! Your Word must be spread so that people can know You!
- God, help us to build our lives, homes, and cities in connection with you instead of in our own strength.
- Faith comes by hearing and by hearing the Word of God! Help us to prioritize hearing and reading Your Word, so that we can grow in relationship with You!
- Teach us about the many different ways You speak to us– we don’t want to put you in a box, and we want to experience You in all kinds of ways in our lives!

We are including Sara's notes for complete transparency for parents.
